Does God hear my prayers?

Short answer

Yes. The Bible repeatedly affirms that God hears the prayers of those who come to him — though his answers may differ from what we hoped.

Deeper answer

Hearing and answering are not the same as agreeing. A good father hears every request and responds with what is best, not just what is wanted.

God's love is not measured by whether he gives us what we ask for, but by what he gave us in Jesus.

From the Bible

  • Psalm 34:17

    NIV
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
  • 1 John 5:14–15

    NIV
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him.
